  • MPN (CBC, marrow, mutation panel)

    • CML
    • essential thrombocythemia
    • polycythemia vera
    • primary myelofibrosis
  • Reactive (B9 marrow, no mutations)

    • postop, esp splenectomy which can shoot as high as 1000k
    • anemia (acute hemorrhage, iron deficiency, hemolysis)
    • infection, inflammation (elevated acute phase eg fibrinogen)
    • malignancy
    • vincristine
    • rebound thrombocytosis (ITP tx, B12, ETOH withdrawal, MTX withdrawal)
  • Redistribution (transient, isolated finding)

    • childbirth
    • epinephrine
    • stress, exercise
