Types- serous cystadenoma
- serous cystadenofibroma
- serous surface papilloma
- benign serous tumor with focal epithelial proliferation
Histology- architecture
- simple branching of papilla
- cyst: cystadenoma, cystadenofibroma
- surface exophytic lesion: surface papilloma
- focal epithelial proliferation = hierarchical branching in < 10% epithelial volume (comment on cystic vs surface involvement)
- lining: cilia, sometimes flat nondescript lining
- stroma: adenofibroma if has fibrous tissue
Ddx- Cortical inclusion cyst: size < 1 cm
- Peritoneal inclusion cyst: mesothelial lining
- benign serous tumor with focal epithelial proliferation: borderline component < 10% in epithelial volume
- serous borderline tumor: complex branching architecture
Molecular- lacks KRAS or BRAF mutations (vs borderline tumor)
