  • Clinical

    • young adult, Asian, female > male
    • fever, cervical lymphadenopathy
    • may also have systemic symptoms

  • Histology

    • proliferative phase: paracortical hyperplasia, single cell necrosis
    • necrotizing phase: necrosis, immunoblasts, histiocytes, lack PMNs
    • resolution phase: foamy macrophages

  • Stains

    • prominent CD8+ T cells in necrotic phase

  • Ddx

    • SLE
    • Kawasaki disease
      • children < 5 yo
      • arteritis, fibrin thrombi
      • PMNs
    • infectious lymphadenitis
