  • Gross

    • new: zone of pallor with hemorrhagic rim
    • old: wedge-shaped cortical depression
    • arcuate artery affects cortex only
    • interlobular artery or larger affects both cortex and medulla

  • Histology

    • acute: coagulative necrosis, rim of PMNs and histiocytes
    • old: fibrosis
