  • Histology

    • keratinocytes smaller than normal
    • intervening horn cysts
    • loose shredded wheat keratin in stratum corneum
    • can be pigmented, irritated (squamous eddy, spindle cells), inflamed

  • Subtypes

    • acanthotic SK
    • hyperkeratotic SK (lots of keratin, papillomatosis)
    • reticulated SK
    • clonal SK (monotonous bland nests)
