  • Clinical

    • etiology: H pylori, NSAIDs, ZES
    • site: proximal duodenum (most common), stomach, less commonly esophagus and jejunum
  • Histology

    • full thickness mucosal defect (below muscularis mucosa), can extend deeper
    • early: fibrinoid necrosis, inflammation, granulation tissue
    • chronic: fibrosis, scarring
  • Ddx

    • mucosal erosions do not extend past muscularis mucosa
    • peptic duodenitis
      • milder form without full thickness ulcer
