Clinical- etiology: H pylori, NSAIDs, ZES
- site: proximal duodenum (most common), stomach, less commonly esophagus and jejunum
Histology- full thickness mucosal defect (below muscularis mucosa), can extend deeper
- early: fibrinoid necrosis, inflammation, granulation tissue
- chronic: fibrosis, scarring
Ddx- mucosal erosions do not extend past muscularis mucosa
- peptic duodenitis
- milder form without full thickness ulcer
