Clinical- most common bone tumor
- site: metaphysis of distal femur, upper humerus, upper tibia, fibula. Less commonly ilium, scapula.
Histology- architecture: cartilage capped bony projection containing marrow. Has a bony stalk.
- layers: perichondrium, cartilage, bone
- perichondrium is continuous with periosteum
- endochondral ossification at base of cartilage
- benign cytology: low cellularity, no mitosis, no atypia
Ddx- chondrosarcoma
- lacks stalk
- cartilage infiltrates soft tissue
- bunions and osteophytes
