  • Definitions

    • nephroblastomatosis = numerous nephrogenic rests
  • Clinical

    • 25-40% of Wilms
    • 1% of infants
  • Histology

    • blastemal cells and immature cells/tubules within native kidney
    • location
      • perilobar: periphery of renal lobe, sharply circumscribed
      • intralobar: center of lobe, poorly circumscribed
    • may be dormant, regress (scarring, obsolescent rest), or proliferate (looks like Wilms)
    • Wilms can develope within nephrogenic rest (expansile mass with pseudocapsule)
