  • Clinical

    • prognosis based on location and size
    • retroperitoneal = fatal

  • Histology

    • compact spindle cells
    • atypia, pleomorphism, hyperchromasia, mitosis
    • architecture: intersecting groups, focal whirling, palisading, can have vascular clefts
    • may contain dedifferentiated areas with epithelioid cells or giant osteoclast-like cells

  • Stains

    • positive: SMA, desmin, h-caldesmon
    • negative: CD117
