  • Clinical

    • painful bladder syndrome
    • female predominance (90%)
    • middle-aged to elderly
    • hx autoimmune disease
    • urine is sterile

  • Histology

    • multiple small mucosal ruptures and suburothelial hemorrhages
    • two types:
      • nonulcerative: no ulcer, sparse inflammation
      • Hunner ulcer: ulcer with superficial debris and granulation tissue base. Marked inflammation
