Names- diffuse type giant cell tumor
- pigmented villonodular synovitis
- pigmented villonodular tenosynovitis
Clinical- age < 40
- site: knee (75%), hip (15%), ankle, elbow, shoulder
- locally aggressive
Histology- architecture: sheets, areas of high cellularity, infiltrative
- mitosis readily identified, can be over 5 per 10 HPF
- can have clefts, pseudoalveolar or pseudoglandular spaces
- multinucleated giant cells
- mononuclear cells
- foamy macrophages
Stains- giant cells: CD68, CD45
- mononuclear cells: CD68
