    • adults: eclampsia
    • pediatric: congenital disease resulting in ischemia

  • Gross

    • diffusely pale cortex (may extend into medulla) with thin rim of subcapsular sparing
    • diffusely hemorrhagic (if reperfusion)

  • Histology

    • coagulative necrosis
    • thrombosis, interstitial hemorrhage
