Histology- architecture: solid, sometimes glandular
- thick walled blood vessels
- cytology: prominent cell membrane (plant like), transparent or granular cytoplasm, perinuclear halo
- key feature: the presence of nuclear membrane kink/irregularity
- can have sarcomatoid dedifferentiation
- eosinophilic variant chromophobe RCC
- no need to grade, but note any sarcomatoid features
Stains- positive: Ecad (98%), Napsin (90%), Galectin (90%), CD117 (87%), CK7 (86%, diffuse)
- negative: vimentin (2%), RCC (6%), CD15 (12%)
Molecular- extensive chromosomal loss
- hypodiploid
