Clinical- uterus
- molar pregnancy (50%)
- abortion (25%)
- normal gestation (22%)
- ectopic pregnancy (3%)
Histology- prominent hemorrhage, necrosis, and vascular invasion
- tumor cells are at periphery of hemorrhage
- biphasic atypical trophoblasts without villi
- syncytiotrophoblasts (syncytial clusters)
- cytotrophoblasts and intermediate trophoblasts (single cells)
Stains- CK+
- syncytiotrophoblast: strong hCG, weak hPL
- intermediate trophoblast: weak hCG, strong hPL
